Fantastic Chenin from the Loire with light sherry notes alongside dried fruit / yellow fruit Peach skin and apricot flavors with lovely concentration reminiscent of peach compote-As wine rarities go, Chinon Blanc is right near the top. With just 2% of the appellation planted to Chenin Blanc, only a few estates produce and bottle any for sale, and of those that do, maybe a handful get exported. Chateau la Trochoire is run by three brothers, symbolized by the 3-legged chicken weather vane on the label, and organically farmed. Their Chinon Blanc Elisabeth is barrel-fermented and aged

This delightful Mâcon has all the hallmarks of good white Burgundy. The Chardonnay flavors are ripe and inviting; melon combined with more tropical fruits. The texture has a creaminess to it, and there is a delicate biscuity note from a good period of lees aging. There is complexity and precision here making this a great all-rounder

Savennières is located on the Western edge of the Anjou region in the Loire valley. The vineyards sit on hillsides overlooking the Loire river. The soils are predominantly schists with some sandstone and clay. They tend to produce a flinty, drier style Chenin Blanc that can age for a a long time. Hailing from 45-year-old vines, the 2018 Roche aux Moines is super gorgeous and silken, coating the mouth with its powerful yet suave character. The low yields are reflected in the dense core of ripe apple fruit, floral notes, marzipan, pastry and the merest hint of spice, which no doubt reflects 18 months’ maturation in barrel. There's a light dusting of fine phenolics on the finish and a satisfying grip, speaking of both the nature of this thick-skinned grape and the vineyard site. A smidgen more length would be welcome, but this is a judiciously handled and delightful wine from Tessa Laroche

100% Cabernet Franc has a ruby color with a purple undertone. The greedy and fleshy mouth is well structured with present but melted tannins, and freshness, with a long persistence on a note of bitter cocoa

Ruby red with purple nuances, complex, and spicy with lots of blackberry and blackcurrant, there is also some mature prune and bell pepper, wine is a blend of our Sangiovese with similar quantities of Merlot and Cabernet sauvignon cultivated at a smallholding near the monastery of Badia a Passignano

Francesco’s method is to pick early, this means the grapes don’t end up cooking on the vines, leading to jammy fruit character and over-the-top alcohol levels, here you have supple blackcurrant and cassis with bitter dark chocolate and plenty of intense body, but a certain freshness prevails. An everyday “vino da tavola” of the highest order

Black cherry, currant, and vanilla, with a hint of floral, are rooted in the initial aromas of this Cabernet. The concentrated palate evolves from blackberries into a lush combination of licorice, tobacco, and toasty oak

On the palate, it is a generous, velvety and persistent, highly extracted wine with a well-balanced alcohol content and a particularly intense mineral hint

This classic Barolo opens with aromas of truffle, new leather, and blue flowers. The youthfully assertive palate has knifelike precision, delivering raspberry compote, blood orange, star anise and crushed mint alongside noble tannins and bright acidity. Austere at this stage, it has incredible energy and boasts serious aging potential

A burst of sweet dark cherry, chocolate, spice, leather and a touch of new oak give this wine notable depth and concentration, it’s a powerhouse (85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon)

The nose is however as explosive, plush and opulent as ever, layered with exotic spice, cracked black pepper and of course streaked with vanilla. The palate is instantly appealing, polished and smooth on entry but steeped in depth and texture as the flavours swirl around, lengthen and delight. The lasting impression is satisfying - a big, opulent and sweet Grenache driven wine with obvious oak quality, great structure, length and finish

Cherry blossom, licorice, espresso and ripe plums get the medium bodied wine off to a good start. It's the blend of sweet, red fruits, soft, polished tannins and acidity that create the personality. The wine was made from blending 46% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot

With its purple garnet colour, the 2018 opens with an immediate flurry of small red and black fruits-raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry and elderberry emerge one after another against a lightly mentholated backdrop. Notes of liquorice and spices complete the charming and elegant aromatic profile. The ripe, soft palate immediately reveals great fullness and maturity on a framework of soft tannins. It will provide pleasurable drinking right now

For a Haut-Médoc, this has an impressive depth of blackberry and blueberry character, together with a fine vanilla-oak note that beautifully complements the supple and finely nuanced, medium body. I love the crisp and delicately herbal, dry finish. A blend of 62% Merlot, 35% Cabernet sauvignon, 2% Petit verdot and 1% Cabernet franc

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon offers an exciting purity of flavors. Aromas of raspberry, sweet tobacco leaf and violets jump out of the glass. On the palate layers of dark cocoa and blue fruits encompass soft round tannins. This wine dances on the palate between fresh approachability with a serious age ability. Aged 22 months in 80% new French oak. Bottled unfiltered and unrefined Alcohol 14.6% Cabernet Sauvignon 94%, Malbec 3%, Merlot 3%, 1,020 cases produced

It is a generous wine with aromas of black cherry and cassis with an undertone of dark chocolate and caramel. The palate is fresh, lively, and bright with lush and smooth tannins with flavors of dark chocolate, fresh tobacco, and boysenberry pie. Mica comes from the same vineyards as Buccella and is made with the same meticulous care as the Buccella wines

Ruby red with purple hints - When young, elegant notes of cranberries and black fruits, floral with a dominance of violet aromas, followed by hints of elegant, dry rose petal perfume. With age, even more complex tones of liquorice and undergrowth will develop elegantly. The wine delivers what is expected from a Gevrey Chambertin: velvety touch on the mouth over a well-defined and firm structure. The elegance of the tannins guide the tasting experience to complexity and multiple layers of tasting

The second wine of the estate is the 2016 Echo de Lynch Bages, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 27% Merlot, all aged in once-used barrels. Classic dark fruits, graphite, licorice, cedarwood, and subtle oak all emerge from this medium-bodied, balanced, layered Pauillac. With terrific purity, drink this while you do your best to stay away from the grand vin

Deep ruby. Delicate aromas of blackcurrant, mocha and graphite are lifted by minerals and violet. Enters pure, dense and round, then shows lively, precise flavors of black fruits, dried nuts, ink and minerals. This has greater volume and flesh than the 2006, along with a brooding, sneaky concentration and a very long, supple finish. The best Lynch-Bages in years, this should prove to be a great wine in time, and a huge success for this estate- (72% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 12% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot,13.4% alcohol)

Aromas of rich cassis fruit mingled with hints of pencil shavings, loamy soil and cigar wrapper. Full-bodied, deep and muscular, it's rich and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit that's framed by firm, powdery tannins and lively acids. The most brooding, backward Lynch-Bages of the decade and one of the real successes of the vintage, this is a vibrant, tightly wound wine that is still an infant at age 10. Readers with bottles in their cellars might try one now out of curiosity, but this 2010 won't begin to hit its stride until age 20-If you ever need to explain Pauillac to someone, give them this. Best from 2018 through 2037

The inky colored 2015 Château Lynch-Bages is a seriously impressive Pauillac that’s up with the crème de la crème of the appellation in 2015. Notes of ripe blackcurrants, caramelized cherries, tobacco leaf and a kiss of lead pencil all emerge from this textbook Pauillac that has medium to full-bodied richness, notable concentration, and building structure. Made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that saw 75% new barrels, it needs 5-7 years of cellaring and will be one of the longer-lived wines from the Medoc

The 2014 Screaming Eagle is an 880-case blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. The telltale sign of this iconic wine is its extraordinary purity of crème de cassis fruit, which is displayed abundantly in the 2014. This sexy, up-front, opaque ruby/purple-colored wine is seamlessly constructed, full-bodied, and has a long finish with silky tannins. This seems to float across that palate with that great fruit purity that is a characteristic of Screaming Eagle. Drink it over the next 25+ years

The 2014 Screaming Eagle is an 880-case blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Deep ruby in colour, with a youthful, precise nose of pure, ripe cassis fruit, subtle, integral cedar oak and fresh earth minerality. Some toasted spice adds a degree of complexity in the wine’s first flush of youth. The subtlety and integration of the nose is surpassed by the finesse of its medium-full body and fresh, bright, lively palate. Touches of tobacco and cocoa combine with some dusty mineral notes and a lovely depth of fruit, enveloping the firm but ripe cocoa-powder tannins.
